In 2010, a few local girlfriends got together to open a little cafe & coffee shop. Graced with the name “The Little French Market”, it offered fresh French pastries, croissants, hearth-baked loaves of bread, locally roasted coffee, and cut flowers.
The market evolved over the next few years by expanding its kitchen and offerings. In 2013, when only one of the original owners was left in the area, long-time resident and business owner, Jeni Porter, decided she wanted to fulfill her dreams of owning a cafe, coffee house, and gathering place. She was able to purchase the cafe, rename it to the “Little Market Cafe”, and take the food, drink, service, and experience to the next level.
I have to pause for a moment and thank all of the people who work tirelessly to keep Ellicott City’s Main Street alive. Because you selflessly give your time and resources, think outside the box, and are eager to take initiative, you attract visitors, shoppers, and diners throughout the year. This memory popped up and allowed me to reflect on the volunteers of Ellicott City Partnership, the business owners and residents, along with our family, friends, and visitors who keep this charming town alive with goodness.
December 2018, when the landscape and soul of our historic area was once again tested following another destructive and deadly flood, Julia and Donna Sanger of Park Ridge Trading Co. coordinated and hosted an illuminated Tree Garden and the first annual Cookie Crawl. Following the aftermath of the flood, their energy and resources were pushed to their limits, yet their unselfish minds and bodies went to work for the town and thought of ways to bring joy and people back to Main Street. And, fortunately for us, they continue to do so.💝
To the current and past staff members and board of directors of Ellicott City Partnership, and to all of the people who have volunteered throughout the years, and to the numerous business owners who have coordinated events, THANK YOU! I appreciate you. I know our visitors do too. 💝
