The Ellicott Silly Comedy Festival was established in 2019.

The Festival’s schedule brings a mixture of live stand-up and improv shows, as well as a Zoom stand-up comedy show. The Festival will also feature a Virtual Reality comedy show called
“Failed to Render” featuring Howard County comedian Tommy Sinbazo. (This is a first for any Comedy Festival). Sinbazo, will also be recording a live episode of his podcast, “Laughfinder” with fellow comedians, Erik Woodworth, Dorian Gray, Aaron Henkin (national Edward R Murrow Award winner), Bryan Preston, and Ben Hancock.
Virtual or not, the Festival puts focus on the rich history of cultural and comedic contributions of Old Ellicott City, Maryland. “This Festival hopes to bring comedians and comedy audiences into Ellicott City and Howard County that without this festival may not ever get to experience this area”, says Shawn Gladden, Executive Director of the Howard County Historical Society, a festival partner. “People are surprised when they see our town for the first time.” The Festival will hold many events at the Museum of Howard County History, including the finale event, headlined by Haywood Turnipseed, Jr.
In addition to stand-up shows, the festival will feature Stand Up Comedy 101 and lmprov 101 workshops/ classes for all comedy levels. The Festival will feature other non-traditional shows such as Couples Therapy, an interactive relationship show hosted by DC comedian Rahmein Mostafavi, featuring 98 Rock’s Wendi Townsend and a comedy murder mystery produced by Die Laughing Productions.
